NAME: Brinda Shivapuja

YEAR: Sophomore

MAJOR: Biomedical Engineering

HOMETOWN: Dubuque, Iowa

SWE INVOLVEMENTAs a freshman, I quickly became involved in SWE International Outreach as the Logistics Director! I was one of the eleven people to embark on a mission to Jodhpur, India with one goal in mind- Women Empowerment. A year later, I helped SWE International Outreach plan a trip to Uganda. Aside from International Outreach, I worked closely with Memorial High School, as the School Outreach Officer, to create a SWENext group so high schoolers have an opportunity to learn more about Engineering at a young age.

JOB EXPERIENCE: I am currently an undergraduate researcher at the Biomedical Genomic Research Group where I work to study the effects of lipid oxidation products on lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes using cell culture. Furthermore, I was also an intern at Infoweb Systems where I refined my skills in Python during the Summer of 2019.

FAVORITE THING TO DO ON CAMPUS: When the weather is enjoyable, I love to take bike rides along lakeshore path.

OTHER CAMPUS INVOLVEMENTI am on the Volunteer Committee as well as an active member of the National Health Honor Society, Alpha Epsilon Delta. I spend my free time volunteering at UW Health in the General Surgery and Bariatrics Unit. Lastly, I am apart of the All-University Strings where I play the violin.
