The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.
Our SWE section has started a new program called “SWE Abroad” where members will travel overseas in January to promote women’s empowerment and STEM. The objectives of this abroad trip are to push members to gain cultural awareness and to develop leadership skills in an environment outside their comfort zones. SWE members will plan and execute a week long volunteer trip at local empowerment centers for women ages 16-55 in Jodhpur, India. Members will run STEM activities and women’s empowerment workshops as well as help teach english and mathematics to encourage women in Jodhpur to continue to gain an education. The program will challenge attendees to enhance their leadership and people skills as well as gain self-confidence and a global perspective.
